RO Stinger 80-1 how to fix winch

I have this RO Stinger 80-1 that my father-in-law gave me because he says he's got no more use to it. I'm thankful yes, that he remembers that I'm really into this kind of equipment. It's been working fine but then I noticed that the winch is quite drifting? How can I fix this? Do I have to pull the winch off the truck?

If your RO Stinger 80-1 winch is drifting, it might need a brake adjustment or cleaning. You probably don't have to pull it off completely, you can start by checking and tightening the brake mechanism, then clean and lubricate it

Likely a brake issue, either worn pads or weak springs not holding when it's supposed to or it could also be a hydraulic leak or pressure bleed in the control valve causing it to creep. You don't always have to pull the whole winch off the truck to sort it, sometime it can be worked around depending on its ease of access

Great suggestions from both responses.. It seems like a brake adjustment or possibly a weak spring might be causing the issue, but a hidden hydraulic bleed could also be a factor. I'd recommend checking and cleaning the brakes first, there's no need to remove the entire winch if you can access it easily. Have you had a look at the brake assembly yet?
