I stumbled upon an old photo of a Rheinstahl crane in my grandpa's stuff. He was a construction worker in southern Germany back in the 70s, and I'm now curious about Rheinstahl and their machines.

From what I've gathered, Rheinstahl made cranes using Faun truck bases. They might have also worked with companies such as Eder, Hanomag, or Massey Ferguson, particularly on things like excavators or lifting gear used around Europe, perhaps even in Switzerland.

If anyone knows something, has old brochures, or has actually worked with Rheinstahl equipment, I would love to hear about it!

Wow, that's a really cool find!!
For more information, I'd suggest checking VintageMachinery.org.
They have great literature and specifications on older equipment!
Then for old brochures and manuals, I think eBay is always worth a look!
Hopefully someone with direct experience would chime in and share some personal insights!!

Do you know where and when the photo was taken and are there any visible markings, model numbers, or unique features on the crane that could help track down brochures or manuals?

yeah, during that era, it was very common for crane manufacturers to buy chassis from specialized truck builders. This allowed Rheinstahl to focus on the crane's lifting gear and superstructure, while Faun handled the heavy duty chassis and drivetrain.
Rheinstahl was a huge industrial conglomerate in post war Germany, and its crane division was a significant part of their business, known for building solid and reliable machines
