I'm running a Fassi FX800 knuckle boom, and suddenly the remote stopped working, it just says "custom protocol" and won't connect. Im stuck using the crane manually for now. Has anyone seen this before or know what it means?

Have you tried turnig it off and on again? All jokes aside, an associate of mine had some similar problem with his Fassi, a different model I think. He cut power to the electrical systems, left it for a few minutes and turned it on again and it was working as before. Try that.

That message is usually a communication error between the remote control unit and the receiver on the crane.
I suggest you re-pair the remote to the crane.
There should be a specific pairing procedure in your user manual, but it typically involves a sequence of button presses on both the remote and the crane's control panel.
If that doesn't work, then it could be a hardware issue with either the remote's transmitter or the receiver on the crane.
If none of these solutions work, I think you'd need to contact a certified Fassi technician for further diagnosis and repair!!

Thanks for the detailed steps! I'll try re-pairing the remote as you suggested. Just to clarify , is there a way to tell if the problem is definitely the remote or the receiver before calling a technician? Any quick tests i can maybe do?
